Succession and Mentoring – View From St. John’s Church
The Apostle John is known for many things, not least of which is surviving the other disciples and avoiding martyrdom. John’s long life made him a likely person to nurture many of the young leaders we meet after the close of the New Testament. One of them was the bishop Polycarp, who was executed for his faith. Let’s visit a church dedicated to John in Ephesus, where he lived most of his life apart from his brief exile in Patmos.
