Meditation is fixing our minds and hearts on… For a Christian it is on God, for a non-Christian it is on nothin. They are emptying their minds, we are filling ours with the maker of heaven and earth. Pretty bid difference.!!

Yes. The Holy Spirit is our counselor, confidant, reminder. The Holy Spirit points us in the correct direction since we do not have JC with us in person.

My alone time with God varies in topic and reflection, listening, talking. Much of it ends up being studing which is more like me learning head knoweldge

Is homosexuality ok. No, it was prevalent in past society and cultures, but God still said it was sinful then as well. That doesn’t mean we are to be mean as we all sin. Straight people disobey God all the time and need to remember that before condemning others.

Instead of stripping off the cultural background, we need to understand the culture to get what God is telling them. then we can learn. Without knowledge of the culture, we cannot sense His meaning as well.

Not sure. I think of Gospel truth as what is not vague. If it is vague, it is an opinion and should be treated as such.

Purgatory. Baptizing babies. Praying to Mary. Saying the Pope has more authority than scripture. When things can be interpreted differently, I mention the most important theology. Personal relationship with The Almighty.

Look at the context of the passage and whether my interpretation is consistent with the rest of the Bible.

Prophesies are a bit of a quandary as they are typically fulfilled twice. One is soon and another is later. Also sometimes the prophesies are mixed a bit, so they do not typically convince skeptics. Personal experiences typically convince more than these. During Christmas, I always read so many in Isaiah. They are so specific about Jesus:)

They are definitely addressing the Jewish audience. It gives credibility to the new testament for them

It helps with the validity of the Old Testament to them and the realization that the Old is not gone, but fulfilled in the New Testament

Biblical prophecy gives us hope and a direction. It is ok not to understand everything. We want to get to know our Lord. So just as we want to know our husbands more to create a greater bond, we want to be in communion with God, our Savior. We don’t want to focus so much on prophecy that we miss the important characteristics and voice of God.

We don’t want to just replace ourselves for the characters in the story. We need to see the differences and the main point of the passage

We can make your own narratives in our current culture that have a similar point as God made in the Bible, but easier for people in our day to understand

Stories bring out feeling more than lectures. We can put ourselves in them. We do need to be careful to understand the story from the listeners perspective and get the point God wants to give us

Jesus did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill the law. The law does not save. Therefore, we listen to Jesus about the heart of the law and the lessons of the Old Testament. Some things are already fulfilled and others are ongoing

While we want to learn from the text, we need to make sure we see it as it is, not as how we want to see it.

Did the author know you and the circumstances you are going through? Yes, He does and did, but He had a purpose in writing it.

They are all an attempt to make sense of how scripture should be interpreted and what meaning it has or doesn’t have in their life

I never compared the fact that Jesus’s birth was from a virgin and John’s birth from a barren woman. Both births are foretold. Jesus was set apart differently than John. John had different food and drink, while Jesus had a different mindset and Goal

Luke talks less about Jewish rituals and more about how to treat one another. Gentiles would be used to hearing stories about what their god did. Not many of them were read, so I am not sure which are interesting. I liked seeing the overlapping of the different time periods. She was focusing on the similarities, but it would be interesting to look into the differences.

It would be hard to read if it was all so not…. Having a bunch of different ways to share wisdom helps us realize that we need to do the same. Always saying no isn’t a good way to teach. Instead making a parallel example drives the point home sometimes

I have found many proverbs useful in daily living, but I’d like a bit more historical context to them as well as a better comprehension. Application to daily living from this as well.

As a teen we looked into the book in a Bible study and made parallel references to the imagery.

Doom and gloom for those who do not want to see the light. It makes us more serious about our faith as our sins are put outs as harsh behaviour (as they should be, but sometimes we just think…”I’m forgiven and it’s not that bad to be less serious.” I love the imagery of Jesus coming in power as he came so humbly the last time.

I had forgotten that only 2 churches were being persecuted at the time. When he read Laodicuas letter, I recalled a time when I read it a few years ago. It described me as I was conforming to the world. Jesus was harsh.
