Capturing the attention of audience, stating the main idea of the service by building a bridge. Giving the audience a reason to listen to you for the next 30 mins by addressing a need in their life.

Start being aware of your speaking with other people. How many times, do you use filler words like ums, ahs, etc..while speaking? Are you comfortable with moments of silence during a conversation? When you tell a story, do people seem interested or does all your details bore them and make them turn away?

I would say inductive is easier for me. Im the type of person that likes allowing my audience to draw the conclusion themselves.

You could begin the service, with an impersonal fact or story that captivates the audience. Using the inductive method to draw them in and allow the text to convince them rather than you making blanket statements that make them close their ears.

I would say materialism. In the people I interact with around me, what you have is what defines you. Whether thats wealth, letters behind your name, etc.

Yes, because as preachers we need to expose what the Bible says. We have no authority in what we say except from the authority given to us by the Author of Scripture.

Its common for me to want to shake everyone’s hand when I introduce myself to people. However, a few times as male I have reached out my hand to shake hands with a female and she has not returned the favor, leaving my hand aimlessly hanging in midair until I discover the cultural norm of males not shaking female hands and vise versa.

Today’s Culture causes us to analyze everything with a hyperskeptical lense. We expect things always mean exactly what they say, this can affect our view of reading scripture, as Scripture uses a lot of imagery to convey ideas.
