I can remember many of the “don’t” being said to me during my times of loss. Or the statements that led in with “At Least…”. They were hurtful to me, even now when I think of it. Our words are so impactful.

Yes, definitely. Everyone’s values are different. I imagined a person loosing their wallet that was passed down from their grandfather who raised them. If it meant everything and was a source of remembrance for them, it is a crisis. I love that this lesson takes the perspective of valuing what others value, and showing up how they need us to.

I have not had the opportunity to minister to a sports team, but I have engaged several student athletes as a professor. Being truly present in what matters to the person we are serving is everything God wants.

A meaningful relationship has a heart posture of service. The interaction is never about me, but how I can help the person I am encountering have meaning in their moment… whatever that looks like. Ministry is not ministry without it.

Highschool and College people in general are still in a phase of self-discovery. They are trying to align with God’s purposes for their lives and identify who they are. I think that I struggle with hurting for those who do not accept the Love God has because of brokenness. We are all broken and it hurts when people think they have to stay there. Its making sure that I am prayerfully pouring into myself after experiencing deep sadness for those I work with.

To be a guest means that I am not entitled to anything therein. To demonstrate my role as a guest, I will respect the boundaries set forth, attend events that I am invited to, and maintain a posture that is surrendered to the direction of the Holy Spirit. All agendas, idols, and preconceived notions must be left at the door.

As a new Chaplain I’m learning not to take credit for that the Holy Spirit is doing. When something amazing happens, I thank God for allowing the experience to be a witness to me and what God is shaping my heart for. Showing up in this posture is helping me grow, catch myself when I become self-focused, and circle back to Gods word daily.

False imaging is the precursor to self-idolatry. It enhances the sinful nature of showmanship and grandstanding that is only encouraged by secular society. Once established, it is difficult to deconstruct the false image a person has made of themselves.

I am not currently involved with Sports Ministry, but I have several students that are involved in sports. I can see myself implementing the principle of ‘Patience’ because working behind the scenes while waiting on the Holy Spirit to move is my safe space. And, it is beautiful to see a heart and life change for God at the end of prayer and time spent.

Before listening to this message, I viewed time as a challenge. This succinct teaching demonstrated that less is really more in the Kingdome of God. And, in discipleship it is more important to model and express the simple truths consistently so the Holy Spirit has room to move.

Prayer is the easiest part for me, because everything I do begins and ends there. The most challenging part is being available fully with time. I can incorporate flexibility into my ministry by making current employment responsibilities remote; freeing up more time during each week to serve in this capacity.
