Spending time with the local church is usually my favorite part of my week (granted, it usually involved coffee or food). I have generally positive experiences, especially comparing them to coworkers or other unbelieving communities I’ve been a part of. These communities lack forgiveness.

The Bible is our beginning, our foundation. Then we teach our subject matter. Finally, we inspect what we expect- that all our curriculum, policies/procedures, etc. are covered in Biblical truth.

Without adoration, we would be prone to forgetting the greatness of the one we speak to. Without confession, we may become prone to forgetting our need for his constant grace. Without thanksgiving, we may forget that “every good gift comes from above.” Without supplication, we may forget to ask for things we want or need.

I try to be honest with my students about the struggles I face in my own life. Not in a way that overshares, but an appropriate amount of self-disclosure builds rapport. It allows me to say “this is something I’m facing, it could be something you face one day, and here is how God’s word says to deal with it.”

Processing activities in my mind are essentially what we call “empowering” activities- when our teaching becomes their doing. When it comes to big questions and concepts, this means we need to give them an opportunity to discuss, ask questions, and then do some critical thinking activities to help solidify the concepts.

Our foundation determines our direction. If we have a Biblical understanding of our creation, purpose, and reality, we can only then transmit that truth to our students, thereby shaping their worldview in a way we are called to do as Christian educators.

I believe this is true because true wisdom comes from God alone, and therefore only someone in communion with Him, instilled with the Holy Spirit and walking in the Word of truth is able to love wisdom fully.

It’s easy to get bogged down by a lot of programs that the modern church institutes and uses. Getting to the core of what the early church practiced can lift the burden of peripheral practices and give us a taste of some vital principles that truly give the church life.

“Communication” is an interesting term for this. It may be a typo. Anyway, these three practices enable spiritual growth; believer learn how God interacts with the world through the Bible, hear about how to experience Him and deal with life’s challenges within fellowship, and commune with him in prayer.

There are a lot of nuances, references, and language that is used in the New Testament that we don’t understand. This is because we filter these ideas through our cultural lenses! Learning more of the context helps us understand and interpret what the authors were saying exponentially better.

We need to first of all, “Share Scripture with our students.” Then we need to discuss that scripture with our students and analyze things that are happening in our community against the scripture. Finally, we need to pray through those situations and issues with our students.
