Bible Interpretation

One of our learning objectives in Bible Journey is good interpretation skills. And those skills need to sit squarely on good interpretation principles. So we’ve had occasional Interpretation Stops. Now is the time to look at what we’ve been doing in the light of the whole history of biblical interpretation.

One of our learning objectives in Bible Journey is good interpretation skills. And those skills need to sit squarely on good interpretation principles. So we’ve had occasional Interpretation Stops. And, of course, we’ve run every lesson through the rubric of “In the Text,” “Behind the Text,” and “In Front of the Text.” Now is the time to look at what we’ve been doing in the light of the whole history of biblical interpretation.

That’s what we’ll do in this module . . . but that’s not all. We want to get back to the role culture plays in Scripture and then ask what role culture plays in our own interpretation.

If this is your first course in the Bible Journey curriculum, you must first visit the Journey Prep page to understand the background, history and terminology we will use in the courses.

  • I have spent the last 2 years working through the Bible Journey and I've been very blessed by what I have learned. A real problem in the earlier courses was when I missed answering a question on a quiz, I couldn't find the correct answer except through trying to answer the question over and over again trying different answers until I hit on it, and not really knowing why that answer was correct. I found this very frustrating. You have corrected that situation here, praise the Lord and thank you for your diligence in making this better. I hope you will go back and do this with all the Bible Journey courses which I do plan on repeating a second time to really get all I can out of it. Blessings to you all but especially Tim and his family. Merry Christmas!

  • The Bible Interpretation course is informative and interesting. It's a great way to get a taste of theology and what we can learn from reading the Bible with an understanding of the context in which it was written as well as the context that we live in today.
